PROSPER Program Celebrates Successful Rollout with Innovative Science to Job (S2J) Experiences in Missouri

June 17, 2024

The Missouri Biotechnology Association (MOBIO) workforce development initiative PROSPER is excited to announce the successful rollout of its Science to Jobs (S2J) experience. This June marks a pivotal moment in advancing STEM education throughout Missouri, with over 200 students benefiting from transformative educational initiatives.

"June's rollout of the PROSPER program has been a resounding success," said Dr. Richard Norris, Director of Life Sciences Workforce Engagement at MOBIO. "We're proud to bring these immersive STEM experiences directly to students, showcasing the real-world applications of science and inspiring the next generation of life science professionals.”

Key highlights include:

·  Immersive Learning Trailer:  Equipped with virtual reality experiences, drone flight demonstrations, and data-driven NASA greenhouses, the immersion trailer functions to engage students in interactive STEM activities that transcend traditional classroom boundaries, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for life sciences.

·  Portable Lab Experiments: We deploy state-of-the-art portable laboratories and partner with educators to conduct hands-on experiments currently unavailable in many schools. We strive to stimulate learning and deepen students' understanding of life sciences concepts.

·  Partnerships and Collaborations: MOBIO proudly collaborates with Missouri Southern State University, MOSO Caps, and Missouri Western State University in the Science 2 Jobs (S2J) program. Additionally, we work closely with BioSTL and BioNexus KC in the BIOTECH for MO program, extending support to rural and underserved communities within Missouri.

"The PROSPER program exemplifies our dedication to empowering students and preparing them for successful careers in the life sciences. We are committed to fostering a skilled STEM workforce in Missouri by equipping students with the interest, knowledge, and available pathways to thrive in the biotechnology industry," added Kelly Gillespie, Executive Director at MOBIO.

MOBIO extends its sincere appreciation to Governor Mike Parson and the State of Missouri for their steadfast support of the life sciences industry and workforce development within the life sciences industry.
